(ken) a first-round knock- out as march madness takes off... saint mary's college eliminated in the first round of the n- c-double-a tournament... as the reigning champs villanova university beat the gaels 61- 57... most students couldn't make the trip to the east coast and catch the game in-person in hartford conneticut... so there was a campus watch party in moraga at dryden hall. this was saint marys' tenth trip to the nc-double-a tournament. 20-10 was the last time saint mary's and villanova hit the court against one another.

disgusting but it's not shocking at all" (catherine) cal berkeley students are reacting tonight... after a young woman makes disturbing allegations. she says people in the cal football program... sexually harassed her.(ken) the accusations are coming from a former student and cal athletics intern... who says she was traumatized by her experience. kron4's maureen kelly has the story. what allegedly happened on and off the field here at cal's memorial staduim was described by the former student and sports medicine intern as ruthless, endless and persistant sexual harrassment....by both players and coaching staff. we are not naming her because she could be a victim of sexual assault.several of her allegations are aimed at one unnamed coach ...who in one instance invited her back to memorial stadium to his office at midnight.she posted on

facebook quote "he snuck me into his office, i put my backpack and binder down, and he immediately grabbed for my waist. i was terrified, my mind was fuzzy, and i do not remember much from that night. he kept kissing me, pushing me against the wall, and i left." she says the next day at practice that coach told her i will get you fired if you do not have sex with me.and that the night before a game she says he texted her to meet him at his room in the claremont hotel where he tried to have sex with her, but when she started crying uncontrollably he became angry and yelled at her to get out. she says her complaints to cal athletics were ignored and that coach is still working there....while she is out on medical leave from school and in intensive therapy.some female students on campus were not at all surprised by these allegations. all these things are pervasive on our campus as well as across the country in the world so as horrible as it is it's not that surprising which is one of the saddest parts of it while a member of the woman's vollyball team says

neither she nor her friends have witnessed that kind of behavior.that is surprising those coaches are also our trainers as well we're around them as much as the football guys are it's never come off any of them ever in any form like that cal athletics says the allegations have been referred to the campus office for the prevention of harrassment and discrimination for investigation.today the cal althletics director, jim knowlton, issued a letter saying these allegations come during an ongoing effort to educate staff and student atheltes on preventing sexual harrasment and violence...writi ng quote,""we have been clear and consistent about our refusal to tolerate this most egregious form of misconduct. if necessary, we will do more." maureen kelly kron4 news (catherine) the wife of a beloved adult education principal was in court today. prosecutors say the woman shot and tried to kill her husband. maria vee-dez made her first court appearance after being arrested for shooting her husband paul shatswell early saturday morning. she's been charged with attempted murder. special

allegations have been added for using a gun and causing shatswell to become comatose because of a brain injury. he's also paralayzed. vee-dez did not enter a plea... that's because the charges couldbe amended if her husband dies. (catherine) vee-dez is due back in court next week... shatswell, the father of eight children, and the principal at the pittsburg adult education center remains hospitalized in critical condition and on life support. (catherine) (catherine) lake elsinore, california is searching for answers to a growing problem. the city is dealing with big crowds and lots of traffic -- because of its super bloom phenomenon.(ken) last weekend-- the flood of visitors to the area caused chaos for the city. now officials say they have a plan to control the crowds.ellina abovian reports. an unusually wet winter has created an explosion of color. the now famous lake elsinore super bloom.the rare phenomenon has attracted tens of thousands of people from around the world.last weekend more than 50- thousand showed ... creating a traffic nightmare.lake elsinore mayor steve manos declared a public safety emergency and it shut down.today local city officials and law enforcement are joining forces to map out a plan for the busy weekend ahead.steve manos /lake elsinore mayor: "as a resident

(grant) as more than a million californians don't have access to clean dinking water..there is an outpouring of lawmakers who are trying to help, but clashing on solutions. governor gavin

newsom is proposing a safe affordable drinking water fund to clean up contamintated water in rural and low income areas. the fund would come from water customers across california, proposing each pays anywhere from 95 cents to 10 dollars a month, depending on their water meter. assembly republican whip devon mathis' district... and a bipartisan group of lawmakers... are proposing a competing measure. (grant) the measure would annually set aside 2% of the general fund to go toward a number of water improvement

projects including ground water clean up and emergency drinking water programs. (grant) its final approval would be up to the voters. (ken) a massive homeless camp is being shut down--- only to open two more in santa cruz neighborhoods. why people are not happy with the decision. police on the peninsula are looking for a man described as "scary and creepy." they say he turned off the lights and interrupted a late night study session... in a young woman's bedroom. 3900 block of el camino real in the city of palo altosot palo alto police investigators say it appears the intruder let himself in through an unlocked door. then made his way to the bedroom and struck up a conversationsot the incident has rattled nervous of folks who live in this quiet neighborhoodsot sot the intruder is described as a hispanic male in his mid thirties, 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing about 180 pounds wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and black pants. if you think you recognize this

face palo alto police would like to hear from you...in palo alto haaziq madyun kron4news (catherine) santa rosa deputies arrested four people in connection to a gang related robbery. the victim says that he was robbed last nighton moorland avenue near west robles avenue.. he says he'd been walking down the street when four men... one armed with a knife... got out of a car, surrounded him, and took his backpack and cell phone. officers found and arrested the suspectsabout 20 minutes later. three of them are adults.. one is a minor who was cited and released to his parents.. (ken) amid hundreds of complaints about rats, discarded needles and unsanitary conditions, a large and very visible homeless camp is to be shut down in santa cruz.(catherine) but as kron four's rob fladeboe reports --the neighbors are not thrilled with the alternative site being suggested.. (gateway plaza homeless camp) here at the gateway to santa cruz, just off highway one, is a sea of tents and tarps where

(ken) the growth rate of the sea ice in the arctic is apparently shrinking. the ice usually thickens and expands during the fall and winter months. scientists report-- at its peak this year-- the ice grew to be five-point-seven-million square miles. sounds like a lot... but that's 332- thousand square miles smaller than its average growth in the past. according to nasa-- this is equal to missing an area of ice larger than the state of texas. nasa reports the max extent of ice this year matches the year 2007 as the seventh smallest on record. a 'game of thrones' star talks about a life-threatening health problemshe's been

a southern california man ran into his burning home, to save the family's trapped dog. (catherine) monday's incident was caught on video - which went viral. sasha foo has the story. it's a day after the fire that took everything jose guzman owned, except for one thing - his dog, gabbana.jose guzman, fire survivor:"she was tied up back by that three over there,

by the fence. all the way in the back, that's where she stays."we traveled to pala to see what was left of his home and to ask him about this video that's gone viral.the cell phone video that captures jose rushing past firefighters and into his burning home, looking frantically for his dog, who was tied up in the back of the property.just moments later, both of them run out - both of them safe. jose guzman, fire survivor:"i was not scared, i was not thinking about it, i was just thinking about getting her." gabbana was a special favorite of his three daughters, including 4 year old hazel.the family had gone out for a visit with grandparents when the fire first broke out.a neighbor called him after seeing the smoke.jose guzman, fire survivor:"i parked my truck there and ran, the firefighters didn't even see me coming through."when jose arrived, the blaze that had started next door had engulfed his home as well.fire crews had already arrived, but jose had just one thought - to find the dog, gabbana.jose guzman, fire survivor:"i couldn't see nothing. i came past this point, i got here and i saw her leash stretched out."once at the back of the yard, jose saw that the dog house had burned.he found gabbana hiding in the bathroom, the only part of the house that hadn't burned.jose guzman, fire survivor:"so i unhooked her and i grabbed her from the collar and we walked all the way back over there, we ran all the way back over there."
